I posted this in the drivetrain section but haven't gotten any response.

I put in a Torsen SLP takeoff years ago to run 3 series Motives.
My 3.73's were quiet except when coming off the throttle at high speeds when I would get a howling noise .
The gears burned up because the rearend ran out of fluid and I replaced them with another set of new Motives which are also quiet but make the off throttle howling coming off high speeds.
The pinion leak was fixed and is was all done by a professional mechanic with 20 yrs experience.
I'm wondering if it's the Torsen that's making noises or should I get real GM gears from the dealer.
If anyone running the Torsen carrier and/or Motives would chime in about their experiences I would greatly appreciate it.

 

my OEM T2 original never did that.

then the rear blew up, and got it replaced by a used 10 bolt, and get a the rear rebuild kit (bearings and stuff) and new 3.73's from SLP, and a better T2R from strano... First install, was bad.. Lound whiniing on accel and decel. Shop looked at it again, and then it sounded like the gates of hell was opening up after a week, especially during decel.. Shop claimed something must have been messed up with the gears, and ordered thier own set. Now I only get some whine/slight howel on accel at about 50 mph.

I plan to bring it to another shop to see if they can totally get rid of the whine on accel at 50 mph.. its one of those things, thats not realy bad, but is just slowly drving me crazy.

I think something is wrong with your rear...

 

I don't get any whine at all just this "grrrr" kind of noise on decell at higher speeds which goes a way the moment I give it some pedal.
We put a full new bearings instal kit with the last set of Motives.
Other than this the gears are super quiet.
