Anyone ever replace AC Compressor Clutch bearings?

I just picked up a 94 V6 Camaro that suposedly had a bad engine. After I got it home I put a battery on it & fired it up only to find that the engine is fine & that it's the AC Compresor clutch bearings that were making the noise The AC still blows cold so other than the bearings it seems fine.

I had bought this car just to use as a race car, but since it runs pretty well I'm thinking about using it for a little while as is first but I don't really want to blow $400 on replacing a compressor for a car that will be getting stripped this winter anyway. I noticed while looking for parts prices on RockAuto they sell replacement clutch bearing assembly which is only about $20 which is a heck of a lot cheaper than getting a new compressor.

Anybody here ever replace the bearings? I'm wondering if it's a royal pain, if not I will do it & have a little fun with the car this summer before taking it apart.

Thanks!

I had an a/c clutch bearing replaced. Still works fine 40000 miles later.

for every one of you it works for, there are 50 others who have dead compresors within a month. I hope that it doesn't happen to either of you but the odds are indeed against you.

Unless it happens right away I don't think I will be changing my mind. I do thank you for your wonderful insightful opinion though If it fails this summer I will look you up & let you know you were right... meanwhile I can be found freezing my butt off with about $350 burning a hole in my pocket
