Anyone that can help with A/C??

Seems like my a/c takes a charge fine, it will blow nice and cold. However, I know I have a leak at the schrader valve ( the part where u attach the freon to add freon ) and whenever I turn on the A/C i get a knockin, clicking type sound coming from the compressor, and sometimes the belt running on the compressor will jump whenever the compressor clicks. Could it be possible that since my A/C is still able to blow cold air that my compressor is not truly bad and just needs a new orphus tube? Like my orphus tube could be clogged or something on the compressor? Cuz i cant understand how I can still blow really cold air with freon in the system if the compressor was no good. Any help would be great.

Also, does anyone know the exact names of the two A/C hoses?

The AC valve should be internaly threaded. To stop it from leaking, take a small bolt with the same thread size and put some teflon tape on it and stick it in there. So first fill it up with freon then thread the bolt in there to keep it from leaking out.

high side and low side.

high side (high pressure) is the smaller hose/tube
low side (low pressure) is the big hose/tube

hope that helps

The smaller hose is called the disscharge hose. The larger hose is called the suction hose. The block that contains both hoses at the compressor is called the manifold. There is NO orifice tube in our cars. We have an expantion system. If you are saying that the belt is jumping when the compressor kicks on and off thats normal. The tentioner is just giving a little. If you are saying that the compressor stops turning and the belt rides over it that is not normal. Depending on which "port" is leaking you will probably have to have the system recovered to get all the freon out to replace it.

to have the system recovered you simply mean, replace all the pieces...compressor, hoses, dryer...etc.????

Recovery means to pull all the freon out so that you can repair any of the AC components. Some Service ports can not be changed while there is freon in the car. Tell me if it;s the high side port (small line big port) or the low side line (large line small port) that is leaking and I will look on my car and tell you if you can change it with freon in it or not.

Re: Anyone that can help with A/C??

the part that is leaking is the line right at the valve on top, which is actually where you clamp on the r-134 freon cans. Because before i bought the car i guess the owner broke off the schrader valve inside there. So it leaks freon since there is only a plastic blue cap trying to seal it in.

But I understand how to fix that...the bigger problem I have is my compressor...what the heck is the deal...do I need a new one? I would assume so because pretty much any time I add freon to the system, and there is more pressure...the compressor will start that rattling noise again and the belt will occasionally look like it slips or whatever.

Does anyone know where the expansion valve is on these cars for the AC? Are there any filters? Is the dryer and the expansion valve an all in one type deal? Anyone that can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
