Anyone with an auto have problems with the shifter sticking?

Recently my center console (auto car) has been sticking to the shifter, and it requires a bit of force to get it out of park and into gear. It is just the plastic around that has come loose I guess...I was just wondering if anyone has had this happen and was there an easy fix for it?

Thanks!

Are you sure it's not the shift-from-park brake safety switch that's causing the problem?

I guess I should have been more clear. The shifter itself is not sticking, but the entire plastic console around it sort of lifts up a bit when I am trying to get the car out of park. This causes the whole plastic piece to move backwards a bit, and it makes moving the shifter in and out of gear more difficult.

Take off your shifter **** and pop up the cover. Wash the staggered plastic flaps with soap and water, someone probably spilled a beverage on it and it gummed up the grooves the flapps fit in. Mine did the same thing you described till I cleaned it. Still has alittle front to back play in it also.

just clean it in the sink with dawn or some other dish deturgent. Use hot water. after its clean wipe down with armor all as the soap has removed all the protectant oils/

First day I had my TA stopped by quick trip bought a 32 oz Dr. Peper. A couple drinks later I had to stop at a light quick. The whole drink went forward, Dr. Peper all over the console, & not one drop left in the cup. I thought I got it all cleaned up but the next day it would not even go in gear. I had to take the whole console out and clean it and the carpet.
