Re: Any common camaro problems?

What sort of Camaro are you thinking of buying?

In my case, I have the following problems:

1. It's way too easy to speed.
2. It makes you extra succeptible to the car modification and racing bug, which will consume your life like a cancer (except that it's fun).
3. You have to deal with the mullet comments.

Depends on what year. 93-97? 98-2002?

Re: Any common camaro problems?

Some of the common problems with the 93-97s are the rear intake manifold leaking, bad Opti-spark units, and failed power window motors. All of these things though are not the end of the world problems and are moderately cheap and easy to fix.

Re: Any common camaro problems?

he hit that one...

1. bad opti's
2. window motors
3. rear end is 7.5 so good up to 300 rear hp? DO NOT USE DRAG RADIALS i have broken 3 rear ends that way, with minor mods

my car has 188,000 and these are the main problems i've had.

take a look at the brake pedal if the inner right is worn then the car has probably seen more stop and go in city traffic. if not then mostly highway and better for the car.

Re: Any common camaro problems?

My '96 Z/28 had the intake manifold leak right away, and a worn out water pump at about 50K miles. Driver's side window motor went out at around 90K. Rear main seal leaked pretty good towards the end as well. The rear rotors warped at about 20K. The stereo shot craps at about 75K. I don't really miss that car.

Re: Any common camaro problems?

My car has this distinctive tendancy to eat imports. I don't know if anyone else has this problem?? It's weird... if there is a ricer in front of me on the street, i'll just tap the gas and poof! they're behind me. It's like my car just chewed them up and shat them out!

yea stuff wears out on these cars like optis, windows, ect....
just replace them with something stronger. that makes it fun. This car is totally worth every penny of gas money, insurance, loan-payments, maintanence, and mods. I wouldn't trade in my SS to save my family!

long live AMERICAN MUSCLE!

Re: Any common camaro problems?

Danny, what are you considering? If you're looking at an LS1, there are very few issues you need to worry about. Some of them are getting a few too many digits on the odometers...

The LT1's have a handful of issues -- optispark seems to be the biggest one, especially in '93-94 models (95's got a vented opti which was much more tolerant of moisture). There are aftermarket ignition systems that replace the opti, and that seems like a pretty good investment to me.

It depends on your purposes. If you're building a dedicated race car, then yes. You don't have to deal with ODBII or emissions equipment, and '95 cars have the vented optispark (which, in my relatively uninformed opinion, should be replaced with an aftermarket ignition anyway).

If, however, you're buying a daily driver that won't get raced very much, and you're not planning on doing any mods or doing your own work on the car, then a 96+ car with ODBII makes troubleshooting some types of problems much easier and cheaper.

If you're somewhere in between, then you just have to decide what's most important to you.
