Antenna mast and motor questions

I've searched around (including this site) and can't get a good idea of a few things regarding the power antenna on my 2000 TA. It makes noise when I turn the radio on, but the antenna stays all the way in the up position. I can't push it down, even if I disconnect the power to it. It has a "springy" kinda feel to it.

I want to troubleshoot it, but I'm not sure how it works. What actually connects the antenna to the motor and how does it work? I've heard of a cable of some sort, but not sure if that is on the motor or what. Also heard of a rebuild kit... think that'd take care of it? What all does the repair kit replace? I didn't want to just go buy a whole unit replacement for $90, or just a motor or mast individually when I don't even know what needs to be replaced.

Anyone with experience on this that can help out I'd greatly appreciate it.

AFAIK, they are unrepairable. No cable available. You'll have to get a new one, or put up with what you have now.

The motor and mast assembly is sold seperatly as far as ive seen. My parts guy that is supposed to be 10% over dealers cost quoted me just over 30 dollars for a mast kit and i beleive the motor was around 90. The way it works is theres a fairly thick plastic line thats inside the antanea that opushes it up and pulls it down. It winds up inside the motor assembly. SOunds like you may hvae a break in the line where it attaches to the motor.

If the cable is broke, would I need a new mast or a new motor assembly? No such thing as a rebuild kit?

Thanks for the replies!

When I replaced my power antenna, the whole thing was about $80 from Dal. That's mast and motor. Yes, there is a cable, but you can't just buy it. Some cars you can, but not 4th gen.

Sounds like the mast is broken inside the motor, on my 95 T/A the mast part # 10256439 according to the dealer, it might be different on your 2000 model.
