Alternator weirdness

I got off of work at 7:30 am this morning (est) and while leaving the parking lot I saw that I had a check guages light... I inspected my guages and saw that the voltage guage was in the yellow. . I figured I'd have to limp it home and when I turned out of the parking lot and got on the throttle a little bit and the voltage meter jumped up to about 50% . Driving home it would drop back until just a hair above the yellow but would never throw a check guages alert. Even weirder is every stop light I hit it'd recharge the battery until I shifted into any gear above 4th.

I talked to a friend of mine and he suggested it was a ground wire... does that sound right? Wtf is causing this?

Not an engine tech question.

Ground wire is optimistic...
Sounds like you are in the market for a new alternator.
Pull your alt and go get it tested..
Make sure you get a good long warrantied replacement.

1. Check loose wiring

2. Corrision

3. With a multi-meter at battery terminal, normal idle, voltage should read around 13.8~14.2

4. Have the battery check with a load tester.. Most part stores can do this..

5. As stated above, you could remove alternator and have it checked also..
