Re: alternator brace

I left mine off on my old 93 Z28 after my header install.
I didn't have any issues and it was like that for around 2 1/2 years.

Re: alternator brace

I put the brace back on mine with SLP 1 3/4.

I ground down one side of one of the factory bolt spacers to a "D" shape to miss the header flange. The spacers are about the same thickness as the factory exhaust flange.

I then stacked another stock spacer on top of the "D" shaped spacer. This puts everything at the the right height. The factory bolt goes back into the very front hole on the passenger side head. This bolt hole is not used by the headers.

Then you tighten everything up with the factory bolt/stud, place the bottom of the brace over the stud and tighten the nut.

Oh, by the way it might be a little tight to get a wrench in there, but it will work. Depending on the header you might have to grind the flange.

I did the exact same thing with my SLP 1 3/4 except I think I remember using a nut as one spacer...can't remember exactly why unless I was trying to match the thickness of the factory manifold. I originally left the bracket off but it just bugged me since I thought I could get it on there. It is indeed a tight fit...both the bracket nuts and the header bolt but I now have a custom ground socket and two custom ground and bent box wrenches used just for my header bolts. I can now reach and tighten all my header bolts from the top.
