Air Bag light on after getting clutch cylinder replaced!
Air Bag light on after getting clutch cylinder replaced!
So I had to get my master cylinder replaced on my 1997 Camaro RS. Dealer told me that the cylinder was on top of the transmission so the tranny had to be lowered out of the car to get to it.
I decided to have the complete clutch assembly replaced, the master cyclinder replaced, and the slave cylinder replaced. All parts were replaced with GM parts.
After the first day driving my car with the new assembly the airbag light and the abs light came on. Took it back to the dealer and complained. Apparently the wiring harness was deterrerated from the engine heat and they destroyed it tyring to get the master cylinder past it to replace it. They repaired the harness and said that would fix the abs problem to the driver front wheel sensor for the abs system.
They said it was just a coincidence that the airbag light came on at that time. Gave me a song and a dance about it being a 200 something point test to check all areas of the airbag resistance path and that it would cost me alot to diagnose the problem. Again said that no way they caused the problem.
My question to the group is:
Did they cause a problem with the airbag or was it just a fluke it came on at that time?
Is this a common 1997 problem? Can I just replace the module under the center concil to fix or is there wiring else where I should investigate?
Thanks so much.

Sounds like they did it. They lied to you anyway (or they're retarded) because the MC is on the firewall, and the slave is on the side of the tranny, not the top. No reason to drop the tranny to replace the hydraulics. I would make them fix it.
First try checking your fuses. Next, for the airbag light, check under your dash and see if this harness has been damaged:

Which harness was deteriorated?

Im sorry, I needed the slave replaced...I made a typo in my original post. They told me the tranny needed dropped to get to the slave on the transmission.
Im not sure what harness they damaged. This was done in Cincinnatti Ohio over the summer. I am living now back home in PA.
How do you clear the Airbag sensor / codes to make the light turn off? Can that be done with a CAN OBD II Code Reader?

Ok here is a strange update.....
I just replaced my front rotors. I had to bang the hell out of the old ones to break them loose.
Ever since that my Air Bag light has not come on since!! Is this a strange coincidence, miracle, or is there an airbag sensor or something near or around the front rotors / spindels?
I think there is a ABS sensor built into the spindel? Anyone?
