ABS/INOP light staying on

ABS/INOP light staying on

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here we go again. lmao I have a 95 Z28 Lt1. While driveing tonight under normal conditions my ABS/INOP light came on and stayed on. I read in the owners manual that if this happens I should shut the car off and let it reset itself, which I did. However upon restart the light still stays on. Sooooo, to check to see if the ABS system was working I took the car out on the highway and at a speed of 65 mph slammed the brakes hard. Guess what,,, no lock up. It appears that the system is still working fine. The owners manual also stated that if the ABS system was failing that the brake pedal would feel hard or stiffer than normal. Not the case. Everything seems to be operating as usual. Any input as to what could be causeing this light to stay on would be appriciated. I know there is a ABS relay in the fuse block, but if this were bad wouldnt the system fail? ... Thanks P.S. No codes!!!

Check your third brake light bulb. The abs is all connected to the brake lights.Hope this helps.

for me it took

cleaning the sensor on top of the differential.

I would intermittently get the ABS-INOP light, and when I did, it was usually in traffic stopping at a light (or something) and the pedal would go all the way to the floor... then grab. Was kinda scary being behind someone and travel a couple of extra feet before it would stop... Not that I was going to hit hard, but it was unexpected.

I've cleaned that sensor 2X in 3? years and the light has stayed away... knock on wood..

something you can try is switching the abs relay with the A/C relay and see if your A/C quits working then you know the relay is bad. make sure your stoplight switch is working also.

Possible solution... Bypass ABS light by running jumper wire from ECBM module light green wire (splice) to any under dash body ground. ABS light permanently gone.

I'd start by checking the third brake light, as I had the ABS/INOP light for over a year before I figured it out. After that, check/clean the sensors and as a last resort do the bypass. Start with the easy stuff and then move to the more drastic stuff.

Good luck

Third brake light was my problem too. If both bulbs go it triggers the ABS inop light. Crazy GM for making it that way, but that's how it is.
