A4 shifter jamming, hard to shift
]sigh[ Never rains but it pours... Fuel pump, fluid sensor, BCM bad, cat going bad (or O2 sensor), wiper motor bad and now -
Over the past few weeks I've been having occasional problems shifting out of park with the button refusing to go down. Last night after driving home, the shifter jammed in the 'N'/'D' position and wouldn't go back to reverse or park without some serious forcing.
Searching here I discovered the problem about the Park issue being the BTSI solenoid probably going bad.
Would the BTSI solenoid issue also cause the problem going from drive back into park as well?
Driving my Grandma's Mustang right now but going to try disconnecting the solenoid tonight.

First remove the cable from the transmission shift lever(gear selector) at the trans., under the car. Then move the lever by hand, to make sure the problem is not IN the trans. If the trans. lever moves then the problem is in the cable or shifter quadrant and you will not have to touch the transmission.

Thanks Z28SORR, that's my plan this weekend. (I live in an apartment and can't easily get under the car)
I disconnected the shifter inside the car last night, it moves freely but I can't budge the cable itself.
The car's stuck in drive and the Emergency Brake doesn't seem to be engaging. (No brake light on dash and the car tried to move forward when I started it). The transmission being in drive shouldn't prevent the E brake from engaging should it?

Definitely good news. I was ready to sell it for spare parts at that point!
Anybody know how to get the center console off? I've got it unbolted from the glove box, so I was able to get it part way up (enough to get at the cable on the gear shift) but the console seems to be attached to something on the front and the Haynes manual is very... vague about this.
Also is there any adjustment that needs to be done on the shifting cable itself when I'm installing it?
