98 Z28 ... good deal ?

This is a 98z28 near me and I think the price is reasonable. Does this look like a decent car ? Anything I should check for when I go to look at it ? Most of them around here are automatics so iam glad this is a 6speed! by the way I'll be 16 in december. Do you think I will kill myself ?

Looks like a decent car for the $$. And yes you will kill yourself. (lol) This is not a toy for a 16 y/o, although they sure are fun, its easy to get carried away, especially if you dont have prior experience with any kind of high performance machines like 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, motorcycles etc. If you think you're going to jump in and be driving like you stole it, you'll end up around a pole in no time ir into someone's rear end. Good luck though!

Lets see how this equation works:

Z28 + 300HP+ 6sp
_--------------------- = 99 44/100 % chance of car wreck.
16yr old

Not your best choice for a first car with about Zero experience driving a high performace model.

Re: 98 Z28 ... good deal ?

hahaha ! Just what I expected form you guys. I have a dirt bike ( RM250 and KX250 ) and I have been around things that go fast quite a bit. I am a good driver but I have never drove a 300hp sports car. I have drivern a Buick with an lt1 and my dads truck. I have the money myself so I really want the car. Maybe I can get my dad to buy it and he can drive it until I decide I can handle it and then I will buy it off him. I originally wanted an lt1 but this is a good deal I think. I think Ill be fine as long as I dont try and show off but what 16yr old doesnt show off with a car like that ? Still havent really made up my mind. What do you guys think ? Should I just get a nice little truck to haul my dirt bike around in ? Thanks for your input so far.

...I don't... i will alway remember though this kid in school a few years ago with his v6 camaro- burning out every time that he left the parking lot I've got a few boltons on my m6 ta and i have to say that i am more mature when i drive it than my dad is. just don't be stupid with it and you should be able to handle it. on a side note... i wasn't allowed to buy a dodge stealth (not turbo) because the people at my moms work told her that it was too fast...then i ended up buying a trans am

that is crap man ! My dad knows the power of this car and he is almost as excited as I am. My mom however would flip if she knew how fast it was.

Re: 98 Z28 ... good deal ?

that does seem like a pretty good deal though if you think you can handle the power/ keep it in one piece

If you want to get it, more power to you.. it's totally up to you (and your parents.) Who knows, you might be the most responsible 16 year old on the planet and you'll have the car for many years to come.

However, it is 100% true that this car is WAY too much to handle for 99.999999999% of 16 year olds out there. I don't care what you feel about your own responsibility level. You'll probably wreck it.

maybe I will wreck it but isnt that what insurance is for ? jk ! My sisters bf is 19 and he drives a 300hp VW golf ( turbo ) and he drives like a maniac and hasnt gotten in a crash yet. I heard on the news that 63% of 16yr olds get in a crash within the first 3 months of there license. I for one hope I dont and if I do I doubt it will be my fault. I think iam goign to get it though. If you people were in my situation and had the money you would do the same right ? Thanks once again

Re: 98 Z28 ... good deal ?

I'm with all the guys who say build up.
I just bought my first M6 Camaro SS, and I love it, and baby it.
I'll be the first to say if I was 16 when I got the SS I woulda trashed it. I sped with my truck enough and now with the SS, naw. cause I want my insurance to drop.

I'm 22 btw.

but if you want it, get it. just becareful. I did more stupid **** than I should have. And I have to say you'll get plenty of looks and people admiring your ride, without burning out, and driving driving crazy.

Just my .02

if you get it let us know, and it is a good price.

on a side note, it might be nice to have an automatic with that much power before getting a m5 or an m6 just gets ya familiar with how it'll take off.

Looking back at how I was when I was 16? I wouldn't
When I was 16 if I had the cash I would have done it in a heartbeat.

I would say go ahead and get the car, however, get a cheap car as well and drive the cheap car especially if this is going to be your first car let alone your first performance car. This is just my opinion though, trust me I know how the M6 F-bodys are and how my M6 05 GTO is as well. I personally would not let an in-experienced driver drive either my goat or a LS1 F-body..

This little paragraph right here tells me that you're not as mature as pretending to be. Your sisters bf drives like a maniac and hasnt gotten into an accident yet? well great for him - how exactly does that relate to you? If he truly drives like a maniac it will catch up to him, believe me darwin always takes his own people when its time. And you dont wanna be in an accident period, your fault or not your insurance will go up anyways.
And to answer your question, yes i would buy the camaro if i had the money when i was 16, but in my honest opinion i think i would've wrecked it. I got my experience in a dsm which was great. This next sentence i'm gonna sound like a complete dick but im gonna say it anyways. Its your life, if you get the car and wreck it - ohh well- we told you so, hopefully you wont take anyone out with you. if you dont wreck it then more power to you, and enjoy the car!
