98 camaro evaporator, help!

just bought a 98 camaro v6. the ac system is leaking and i *think* i smelled ac coolant inside the vehicle after i recharged it the first time. which tells me its the evaporator. took like 3 days to go from cold to nothing. i noticed the evaporator comes out of the engine bay.. the box is right there. any know how hard it is to remove that thing and whats required? it doesnt look very easy to get to.

also, what commonly goes out first in these ac systems?

id really appreciate the help, thanks.

You have to remove it from the inside, remove the dash , air bag, duct work, heater core. when I pulled the evaporator out, I broke the plastic lip that is part of the HVAC box.. and had to glue it back in.. I think you pretty much have to break that lip unless you wan to remove the whole HVAC box..which is a MAJOR PITA....

Not sure on a 4th gen,but on a 3rd gen you could remove the top half of the plastic cover and see it in there. Then you could get an A/C shop to put in some of that green dye in there to find where the system is leaking.
