97 SS value vs LS1 car value
Im not making another Lt1 vs Ls1 thread but im kinda in the market for another car. I think it is time for me and my 94 Z A4 73,000 miles to part ways. So im my area there is a 97 SS with M6 97,000 miles for 7,300 obo then there is a 1999 Z28 M6 with 82,000 miles for 8,000 firm. I think i got my buyer for my car locked at about 6,000 or 6500. Which car would be the better choice and state reasons why. Thanks
P.S. I dont have too much extra money, so for the difference of my car I would prolly get a loan and then pay the full amount that I got for my car at the loan and then pay it off asap.

Re: 97 SS value vs LS1 car value
Damn I sold my MINT 96 z28 with 42k miles on it for $6k right before summer after marketing it for months...
I would go with the LS1 car. Unless you want to have a SS and that's the big thing for you otherwise the z28 is just as good and I love my LS2 GTO (LS1 isn't that much different just a couple more cubes and horses)

If you are geared towards all-out performance, I would go with the LS1. If you are looking for a car that has more of a collectors image to it and is a bit of a rarity then I would go with the LT1 SS.

I love my LT1 and wouldn't get rid of it to buy a near stock LS1 car that would be slower than what I'm driving now. But if I was in your shoes, I would buy the LS1. If you like the SS hood you can always buy one, same with the wheels and spoiler. Aside from a new dash, the 97 is basically what you have now.

definately do the LS1. I'm assuming you havent drivent hte LS1 car... otherwise you would've already bought it. And when you do drive it, dont focus on how the power "feels" just watch the speedometer and be amazed at 4500 rpm and up.

Re: 97 SS value vs LS1 car value
I think you will find that over time, the 97 SS will hold its value and increase, while the LS1 Z28 will be just another Camaro for sale. If you do any comparison between an 96-97 SS and a 96-97 Z28, you will find the SS is in league outside regular vehicle depreciation. You're example shows how a two-year newer Z28 is already down to the level of an older SS. Had GM not decided to bring the Camaro back in a couple of years, both would begin showing appreciation in value, however that's not gonna happen for at least 10 more years. Performance wise, assuming both being stock, the comparisons are repeated often and hardly debatable any more, but certainly not much of an issue after a few mods.
I have a 1996 Z28/SS and there were less than 2,500 made in that year, and a little more for 1997. I never see a 96 or 97 SS around my area, very rare indeed. Lots and lots and lots of 98+ SS and WS6s however.
Even though the SS really is just a modified Z28 with mostly cosmetic changes, there is a perception amongst all women that men who drive SS's are better lovers and are more manly (endowed). So, if that has any impact on your decision making...
