93-97 camaro foglight question
93-97 camaro foglight question
Does any body know the reason for the angled lenses on the factory foglights? Is it just to fit the contour of the nose, or is it meant to aim the light to the outside more? I am replacing mine with aftermarket ones and using all the stock brackets, so I need to know about the angle to get the new ones in there right. Any knowledge that any one has on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Re: 93-97 camaro foglight question
First off lets get our terms together. The outsides of most lenses(the clear glass) are usually flat. There is usually a patern on the inside that is obviously visable. The refector(the silver part) is angled and/or shaped to project the light ******d. Between the lens and the reflector you can project the light at varying degrees Fog lights can be as much as 180* Driving lights as little as 10*. The entire assembly(lens, reflector, and housing) is often angle down to reduce glare to oncoming traffic.
Once you have the fogs installed park your car about 8 to 10 feet from a flat wall at night. Turn on the fogs only(if you can), measure the distance from the ground to the center of your fogs. Then measure and mark this same distance on the wall directly in front of the light. Fogs should have a reletively flat wide pattern with the approximate top of the pattern level with the mark you made on the wall. It's actually easy and obvious once you start.

Re: 93-97 camaro foglight question
Ok, thanks for the input. To make sure I understand; I do not see any pattern inside the OEM housings with the lenses off, which means that the angled lenses are just decoration. Correct? That is good if so, because I would rather flush mount the new ones than angle mount them and modifying the OEM brackets for either setup will be different. Thanks again for your input.
