1998 Durango Problem

So this problem has haunted me for the last 6 months. Go out to start my Durango, turns over for ever and nothing. So I have to hook up a battery charger to it, and try it again. Finally get it to start and it dies automatically. I have to keep revving it up until it decides its going to stay running. It's very cold outside thought maybe gas line froze whatever...bought some HEET. Didn't work. Had this problem all winter long, sometimes worse then others...sometimes never at all. So yesterday I'm driving home, CHECK GAUGES light comes on...every light is fine but the battery light. So I make it home, and assume it the alternator...takes 10 mintues to take out, take it to O'Reillys..."the alternator is fine". Go home put the charger on the battery and put the alternator back in. Starts right up...same problem, have to keep revving it up to keep it running. I'm assuming its not my battery because it keeps turning over and keeps it running, now I know its not my alternator, its not freezing outside today...PLEASE HELP ME!

When the battery voltage gets low enough the controller forgets what it has learned, this is why you need to keep giving it gas. Have you tested the battery?

Not yet, that is tomorrow. My friend told me a little bit about that. Maybe the computer is forgetting what's going on or something like that?

Re: 1998 Durango Problem

Basically, its like a battery disconnect essentially. I'm guessing the battery is the source of your problem.

Re: 1998 Durango Problem

Thanks for your help. I am going to take the battery in tomorrow to get tested. I also am going to buy an air filter...mines pretty dirty too.
