It's a whole different car! The 97 z28 will be hella faster that the IROC, hell, even a 97 v6 would beat the IROC.

Being that it's an 86, yeah. The 86's were the slowest ones (even slower than the 85's). A V6 4th gen isn't going to best the later ones though. A 90-92 IROC/Z28 with the L98 will give an LT1 a run for its money when comparing stock to stock.

I've never heard of a stock l98 IROC/z28 going faster than mid 14s. Got any videos or anything?

I think the 4th gen is better in every department stock than a 3rd gen, except for maybe working clearance in the engine bay.

I bought a blue '85 IROC brand new. That car was sharp as hell, and was the talk of my hometown for a couple of weeks, but it was the biggest POS I have ever owned.

And for comparison's sake, my '94 was a much better car all around.

Like previously stated you do have a lot more space to work with in the engine bay of the 3rd Gen and cramming a BBC is very common with those cars. Depends whether or not the car you're looking for will be a Project or a DD. As far as reliability the 1997 z28 would be the best bet, especially if it's 6speed.

When I had my 94 z28, and my friend has his 87 L98 Iroc-z, He would jump me off the line, hold with me through 1, and slowly fall behind in the latter part of 2nd...

Remember L98's had more stock torque than LT1's and only 50 less ponies tops... Comparitively, they also had a better gear ratio stock (3.23 I believe) than the 2.73 geared LT1 A4's...
