1997 Ss/z28 ???
Hello! I'm new here, forgive me if I put this question in the wrong place, but I need your help.
I am about to purchase a 1997 SS/Z28 Camaro. I checked the RPO codes and looked at the SLP stickers on the door. I have both the WU8 (SS pkg) and the Z28 code. NOW- I have searched everywhere for production numbers for this car.
Do all SS cars in 97 have the Z28 code as well? Is this car really nothing out of the ordinary? No, no BC4 or 1LE codes...just both for Z28 and SS.
The car is a beautiful white with a tan and black leather interior and is a 6 speed. SLP- wheels, exhaust, SS/Z28 floor matts and I cant remember what else at the moment.
I came here for a few reasons- to introduce myself as a 'soon to be' Camaro owner and to see if all of you Camaro experts can help me out. I also own a 1997 WS6 Ram Air Formula, white as well.
Thank you very much for your help in advance!

All 96+ Super Sports are Z28s. GM built the Z28 car at the St. Therese Plant in Quebec then shipped them over to SLP to get their SS treatment. Welcome to the board.
PS even some 96 model year cars came with Z28/SS badges IIRC

LOL....Thank you! I was unsure if I had found something 'special' or not.
Is there anything else I should look for that may make my car unique? The car has 80K miles and has been owned by, I would say, a 50 year old woman, and she has owned the car since it had 14K miles on it. The car really is perfect- Paint is beautiful, interior looks barely used and runs and sounds like a true beast. Oh, also has the single drivers side SLP exhaust which I think is very cool. No t-tops. They want $7950.00. I feel pretty confident this is a darn good deal. Is there anything I should be questioning about the car? i am going to have a mechanic look at it first before I buy- Is there something in particular I should be looking for that could be bad?
Again- Thanks millions for your help- and it is definately nice to meet you all!! Wish me luck!!!

The optispark(distributor) is one of the big problems with these cars, but if you describe it as running and sounding good, then I wouldn't be too concerned with that. The power window motors are subpar and the stock rearend doesn't have the best reputation. However, the window motors are cheap and easy to replace and as long as you aren't making gobs of power and beating the hell out of the car at the track all the time, then the rearaxle and remainder of the drivetrain should be just fine.

Some obvious things you've already seen.
Composite SS hood, functional "cool air" intake. And SS rear spoiler, slightly higher lip.
5 spoke ZR1 type wheels, As this is a vert. we only got the 16" wheels not the 17" all other SS's got.
Also because it's a vert. we did not get any suspension upgrades, just the standard Z28 suspension.
All SS's got some kind of CAT back exhaust. Do you have a single outlet on the drivers side or a single pipe with a dual outlet? The dual outlet drivers side exhaust is called a TOTL(two on the left).
With the intake and CAT back the SS is rated at 305hp up from the 285 on the Z28.
If you call SLP with your VIN, you can get your "Build Number". See my sig.
You should also have a Dash Plac. near the radio, and an SLP suppliment owner manual.
I believe all this is starndard on all SS's. However if this was a special order you could have other options. You'll have to check the RPO Codes.
If you haven't already, come over and join: http://www.camarossoa.org/ really nice group of folks.
These cars are destined to be collector cars for the 4th Gens. so treat it well.
