1996 z28 Center Console Upgrades & WTB?

I have a '96 Z28 6speed that I would like to update.

The console below the radio holds only tapes and since it is an add-on piece (not part of the console that holds the radio) I was wondering if anyone knows of custom parts that match the interior?

Does anyone know if the center console (arm rest up to the front) can be replaced with a 97+ console. I like the arm rest on the 97+ better as they seem more sturdy and open from the side, not the front. The cigarette lighter is in a better position to, not interfering with shifting.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

back in the day I mounted a 10 disc CD changer in that "tape slot"... I've since moved to an iPod, so I put the original POS plastic back in there.... Have thought about fabricating a surround for my GPS... if anybody has a clue where to start w/ that project it would be cool... for now I just stash my glasses etc in that hole... it is a weak use of space.

If you put in the '97+ center console, there will be a gap of around 3 inches from the small storage area/hidden cupholder on the console to the bottom of your radio.
