Re: 1996 SS vs 1998 SS - Performance Similar?

I personally like the LS1 SS better, mod for mod it turns out more power, it has more power stock, less prone to problems. Plus the LS1 cars are just more modern looking. I used to like the lt1 camaros but after a while they just look like a cross between a thirdgen and a ls1 car. I think the headlights look like a geo, it's either a love it or hate it kind of car. Plus the technology is 12 years old. Also i think a LS1 car responds better to appearance mods, such as billet grill, body kit, etc. I do like however, how the LT1 cars have true RAM AIR unlike LS1 cars that just act as a cold air intake. The LS1 hood scoop is much more low profile which i dont like either. But i couldnt be happier with my car well, when i get it fixed..lol

Nah, SLP made only like a hundred of the LT4 cars.

Actually if you read about it the optispark provides much more accurate timing than a conventional distributor, which in turn allows quicker starting and better performance. If GM had gone the more expensive route and used coil packs in place of the cap & rotor, it probably would have been a very good ignition system. I don't think it's too bad myself like it is, my cap and rotor went at 81k, and my optical section is still running strong at 94k. In fact, my opti outlived my 4L60E (R.I.P. 91k)...
