1991 Camaro trunk won’t open

Hi! I have a 1991 Camaro that I just installed new trunk lift supports today and got it all in and it seemed all good and working. I closed my trunk and now the trunk won’t open. I’ve tried the key and it turns but doesn’t open. My trunk latch switch doesn’t work to open the trunk either. Any suggestions helps!

when you install new struts it tends to push the whole deck backwards. This is a very common problem. If this is your problem then you will have to turn the key and give a hard pull up then you will need to adjust the pin that goes into the latch. If the trunk or spoiler are not where they should be your best option is take the rear panel off and reseal it back to where it belongs. There are several YouTube videos that show how to replace the rear glass that will help you see what you are dealing with. I have just done this on my 89 IROC The metal rear panel has 5/16 mounting studs but the rear glass holes are 3/4 in. With heat and age and the struts constantly pushing everything back the sealant lets everything slide. I hope this helps

this makes sense! Thank you! I will see if that is the problem! I’ll respond if it does!

yes photos will work! I tried turning the key and pulling up and that didn’t work. I looked through and could see when turning the key there is a wire broken and it isn’t opening. I’m wondering if at this point If it’s needs a new lock.

I took photos of mine. the key cylinder turns a cable which turns the solinoid on the latch. I don't know if your dash switch operates works, if it does have someone push it while you try to open it. I know this is stating the obvious but sometimes you overlook the easy stuff. Now is when it will gets nasty if that does not work. The photos show the parts but everything is behind the plastic panel. If the cable is broken you will have to access the solinoid/latch. It is behind the luggage lamp. It is held on by one 10 mm head bolt. BUT you can not just pop the lamp out to get to it and the lamp is held in really well. Since it is a large plastic panel that covers it and there is carpet over the area .....I ...ME.... I would cut a hole in the panel and repair the panel after the repair and put carpet back over. The panel can not be removed without the back open.. I have not tried to get a cable assembly. Good luck. Is the trunk /spoiler panel moved rearward? If it is I have photos of why it is happening and how to fix it.

I will say before you drive yourself crazy if you can have one person turn the key while you and someone else really pull up on it The new struts probably pushed and jammed the panel backwards. Please try this first and get back to me. I am new to this site and can not believe no one else has answered your cry for help. Keep in touch

Ok I will be able to look more when I get off work but I will say this car has a speaker box fit into the trunk. It’s made for the trunk so I can’t get the box out without the trunk up and I think that where I screwed myself 🤦🏻‍♀️. I will get my husband and his brother to maybe pull while I turn the key and see if that works. I appreciate the pictures. And this was the first post I made and I’m pretty new too!
