14's at the track ???

Went to the track last night and could only muster a 14.095 at 102 in my A4 00 T/A. I was a little upset as I was confident it would go at least 13.8. Is this a little off? Don't know what the DA was but tracks at 900 feet ASL with 85 degrees and 85% humidity.

I know the 2.73 gears are hurting it as it would only pull 2.2 60's dead hooking but the mph seems off too. Some 3.42's are going in tomorrow along with a PCMforless tune and we'll see what happens. I can't go back to the track with an LS1 car running 14's.

Re: 14's at the track WTF?

I think your mph is fine. It's your 60' and DA that hurt your ET.

I ran last night here in Texas and the DA was 5500'. Absolutely rediculous.

the 2.73's hurt you the worse. i sound like a broken record but i always tell people how i gained a full second off my time just from going 2.73-3.73. (13.2 down to 12.0)

I ran a 1/4 in my Stock '87 L98 TPI last year at 14.1 @ 101MPH. You should be doing better. Well I had at the time a Hypercrap chip, K&N, and TB airfoil. Stock 3.27 gears.

marty danko in warminster. bow94z hooked me up with his info. the guy does fantastic work. if you are familiar with street rd, coming from 611, go past 263 (york rd) and right by the 7-11 is mearns rd. make a left and follow it back for 10 mintes and when you get into ivyland area, turn left into an industrial complex and hes in there. im vague on directions from mearns rd cause its been a while. md custom auto, if the number is still good, its 215-674-1921
i paid around $600 for parts and labor, richmond gears=206, install kit=96, 2 qts oil=6 posi additive=11, tax=19, labor and tax 265

Is that with the mods in your sig? Because A) you should have run better than 13.2 WITH those mods, even with 2.73's, and B) 3.73's alone won't knock over 1 full second off your 1/4 mile time .

Hey turbotko, just so you know you're not alone, I've run a few 14's in my car as well, and it always seemed to relate to the weather at the time. Every time I've taken my '02 to the track, all of the runs I do are within a couple tenths of each other, regardless whether it's been ~14.0's, or ~13.0's.

But just for comparison, my car ran ~14.1 @ 101 bone stock, and then ~13.4 @ 105 bone stock, but just a few months later!

With 4.10's but otherwise same setup as with 2.73's, I ran 13.02 @ 107. That's only ~4 tenths off the time, and that's pretty typical for guys running 3.73's / 4.10's over stock 2.73's.

I'd LOVE to see the car that runs 12.0 with just a set of 3.73's.

Its ur 60ft times, something like every tenth of a second at the start is three tenths at the finish....

Re: 14's at the track ???

The reason myslowcamaro dropped a second with only gear changes is because of his cam. That thing had to be an absolute slug with a cam and 2.73's.

The air at the track that night was horrible though. I just got the 3.42's in yesterday. Everytime I do that job I swear I'll never do it again. The car feels alot stronger though and now if I could just learn to live with the gear whine.

I can't wait for the pcmforless tune and longtubes to get here next week. Low 13's.....here I come!!

Re: 14's at the track ???

I ran 14.2s and 14'3's forever because of 2.73 gears and 60' of 2.2's.

In order to get to steady 13.4x's in humidity was with 3.42 gears, headers, exhaust, cam and a mail order tune.

Re: 14's at the track ???

Ya you were making power way higher than your launch and gripping at lower rpms would have totally screwed your runs. Now could EVERYONE gain a full second, no. You? most definately.

I agree with robvas, slap a better stall and the 60' jump would be much better.

Re: 14's at the track WTF?

Dude, I've been around this and other LS1 boards long enough to know that an LS1 won't "magically" drop ~1 second off by swapping from 2.73's to 3.73's like that, unless you had other issues going on with your car (in your instance, simply a really bad setup, having the heads/cam, but really high gears out back). Like I said, considering you had engine mods and made ~420 rwhp, clearly 13.2 is really slow. I ran 13.4 bone stock (~290 rwhp) w/2.73's, so my point was that there was no way 3.73's would suddenly turn a 13.4 into a ~12.2.

Do I believe that in YOUR case the 3.73's helped, hell yeah. But you gotta see it from my perspective ... you didn't exactly make yourself clear.

Re: 14's at the track ???

i didnt feel like typing a novel on it. in previous posts i was very clear on why. my quick answer was basically to say it helps, but i also said that I had that luck and assumed everyone would figure its not going to drop a second on a stock car. not clearly, but hinted i told this story several times with the comment "i done mean to sound like a broken record" .i had no choice but to attack you caling me a bs'er when it was done with witnesses in my case, so yeah i was pissed. ill edit out my comment, but next time just because you havent seen it, dont raise the flag on it. next you are going to tell me santa clause isnt real. i will even go as far as to appologise to you for my comment.

turbotko-sorry your thread got jacked over our arguement (although i didnt start it) and yes the gears will help. you wont lose a second but guessing .3-.5
