Hey guys. My buddy wants me to hit the track with him tomorrow. He has a 2001 Type R integra, and he just got a S/C put on. He has a few other mods I think. I don't know if I'll beat him, but I've only driven my camaro a few times, and I'm not too sure on the shift points and power band. What's a good RPM to drop in at from the start? And shift points for gears. What gear will I finish in? 3rd or 4th?

Any other information will be helpfull too. This will also be my first time at a track, with any car. If I go, which I don't think I will, I would expect atleast a 14 flat or so. Before I get used to the car. I don't know if I want to bring it to the track though, I mean, that's a good way to get things broken, ya know? Insight is always apprecieated.

Is your's an A4 or M6? If you're driving a 6-speed, you've got more room for error, but so does the guy driving the Integra (likely a 5-speed?). With an A4, just put it in Drive and go for it. If you've got the M6 though, I think you can scream them across the line in 3rd, or you may just have to shift to 4th before the line.....I'm not sure?

I'll just say, I raced a turbo'd Integra (2nd-gen, '90-'93~ish) out on the highway, and it was pretty quick upto about ~120 mph, but after that I could walk the guy no problem, and that was bone stock with 2.73's! I'm sure that off the line I would have smoked him too.

Unless a Honda (inc. Acuras) has been really worked over, they're typically ~14 second cars at best, with the occasional ~13 (usually with spray). I have seen some 9 - 11 second Hondas at the track, but they aren't street cars. They're completely gutted, with full cages, lots of engine work, and lots of juice! You can tell if they're street or not.

 

I'm driving a 6 speed. I don't think I'd be asking for shift points if I were driving an A4. Although, you can reprogram the shift points in an auto....

launch at probably 1500...just feather the clutch to prevent wheel spin...

lol...that is easier said than done trust me. i would suggest practice a few times on a side street.

then just shift when the tach is near 6k...possibly sooner since the stock tachs are slow and don't read accurately.

you'll most likely have to shift to 4th just at the end of the track.

a stock m6, 00 SS should do a mid 13sec run without too much trouble. WELL driven low 13s

 

I suggest the same thing only revving to about 1500rpm before dropping the clutch and feathering it so you try not to spin as much, cuz you dont want to drop the clutch too high and spin the hell out of your tires (assuming you have street tires). Take the car up to just shy of 6000 rpm when shifting but with stock gears you should be able to run it through 3rd gear accross the 1/4 mile mark. I have 4.10 gears so I have to shift into 4th otherwise I hit the rev limiter and you dont want that.
Also dont be surprised if you hit 13's, but also dont be disappointed if you dont. There is a lot to consider when racing your car and it only takes practice to get better

My buddie's '00 SS ran mid/high 13's bone stock. You should be able to cross the 1/4mi mark in 3rd gear just before hitting your rev limiter. I run low 13's with 3:73's (my best time was 13.2@ 106...no NOS...around 3 years ago) and have to hit 4th gear just before the finish line. I like to do a 3000rpm launch and roll the clutch in (I use a Centerforce Dual-Friction). The more you get to know your car the more you can feel it's limits. When I launch I can actually feel when the tires are breaking loose and modulate power from there. I've also been drag racing for about 12 years now so experience definitely helps. Also...if you've seen "The Fast and the Furious" be sure to erase all that garbage from your memory...it's all BS
