02 Z28 Air conditioner problem

I didnt know where to post this after looking for about 20mins.
2 weeks ago before my air conditioner went out, it sounded like a belt was squealing really bad under the hood. I just ignored it at that time. Now the squealing has stop and so has the air conditioner. Is there something simple I can replace or am I going to have to replace my whole air conditioner??

Also, if anyone knows anyone in the DFW area to take my car to have it looked at, please advise. Thanks

Squeeling belt? hmmm...

Is your alternator still working? (i.e. is the belt spinning with enough tension to move everything? tensioner may be out?)

If the tensioner is fine, sounds like a AC compressor or clutch failure. Sad part is those compressors are NOT cheap. I'm suprised you're have ing problems with it... GM units last a LONG time here in the NW, but we don't use them as much as others. I belive the list price on those is ~$700, maybe $550 or so through GM Parts Direct, but it's been a while since I've looked one up so don't hold me to it.

Unless you have refill equipment, sounds like you'll have to take it into the shop.

The alternator still works perfect and everything is spinning. I think its possibly the clutch or something. My last camaro, I could hit the top of the compressor and the clutch would kick in, but I cant reach down there and hit it on this car. I know its pretty expensive. I really dont want to do it, but it gets 110 degrees here sometimes here in Texas. Luckily its not a daily driver, but its still pretty hot when out drag racing or out cruising.

Thanks
