Ok so after taking my old supposedly bad coil over there and trying it it's definitely fried, the coils are open on it. And the MSD coil in it tests both Ohm and spark strong, the ICM tests perfect and fires when you manually ground the driver wire.

It's looking like a bad computer, I'm getting a code 42 (EST grounded) with the ICM connected and a code 41 (EST open) when the ICM is unplugged.. And another weird thing is with the MAF connected and a Vantage probe on the signal wire it's showing 175hz when you crank it, and according to the specs I have it should be about 300ish?

What do you guys think?

Code 41 open unplugged is good , code 42 when plugged in is bad.. The ICM is not a complex circuit ref shoebox " http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#opti_test " and " http://shbox.com/1/95_ign_system_schematic.jpg " it does get ground thru black wire on front ground hub on the head and +12 from the coil. Make sure they are OK. The AC voltage test on pin 'B' eliminates the ICM if signal is missing then the OPTI is suspect, if bad AC signal level then the PCM, but that's usually a very rare occurrence. Looks like your shop is close to figuring it out..
As far as the MAS signal, I would not be concerned, the 125 HZ difference you looking at less than a gram/sec difference, could be your cranking RPM is a little low, but not worth looking at. If the MAS was off the real indication would be BLM's off while running. The PCM using O2 feedback would be constantly correcting the AFR for a bad airflow reading and the BLMs would show this.

Ok so theoretically could a stretched or broken timing chain cause a DTC 42? I was just thinking maybe if it stretched bad enough it would cause the Opti to lag so far behind where it should be the PCM would never agree it should be giving the spark signal to the ICM driver wire?

Or is that just wishful thinking, so I don't have to replace my PCM lol..

Ok after all this debate and thoroughly testing the ICM, that in fact was the issue.. Gotta love the stupid stuff eh?

Thanks to everyone for all the help with the issue, I really appreciate it.
