Mallory Dead again???

I was coming home from work tonight all of a sudden as i was starting to accelerate up a hill the car lost all power. The first thing i check is the Mallory and its still on.. so i go under the hood and put the ignition back to stock and it fires right up. Ive already had this go out early this year and have only put maybe 500 miles on this new one. Anyone else had this problem with the 685?

I failed a Crane Hi-6 box after about 600 miles. It was mounted in the engine compartment so I assume it was heat related. The next one lasted much longer mounted in the car on the passenger side kick panel.

On the kick panel up front? I ask because I was worried about putting it there in case the heater core breaks and coolant gets leaked into that area.

I don't know if it makes a huge difference or not, but the Mallory does have a lot more circuitry and digital components that could be much more susceptible to heat. It's not quite as simple as the MSD 6 series.

I haven't had any problems with mine, but I purposely mounted it in an open location so it gets plenty of airflow. Even in the open, I've noticed it gets pretty warm, I can only imagine how warm it can get it confined spaces or in the engine bay.

I mounted my 685 in the nose of the car where the wiper fluid bottle used to be. It got plenty of airflow and always seemed to run pretty cool. I had to send my box back to Summit due to failure. One day I was just driving down the road and then all the sudden the car just stopped running. Since I got the new box, everything has been fine. (So Far)
