Mallory 685 bad for opti?....

i read a post by another member saying that the 685 box isnt good to constantly use with the Opti. i plan on using it for nitrous, with the retard and window switch capabilities but was wondering what people thought/heard/know about this.

No particular ignition box is bad for the opti. People just like to make unproven claims.

Not really, but I know from running an MSD 6A for 6+ years that it's not bothering my opti. There's plenty of other people running ignition boxes, too.

yep yep. hmmm, well i guess screw it then. how about mounting it? i can rig it to activate the window switch and timing retard only when i arm the system correct? so then i can mount it under the hood since i wont manually need to retard the timing everytime then huh....

Yes you can set it up to retard the timing while spraying only.

I wouldn't put a whole lot of thought into it, I have also heard many claims about aftermarket coils destroying optis as well.

You are right that it is unproven but wrong about people (like me) simply liking to do it. I repeat empirical as well as logical statements from respectable people because I believe they are correct. I've quoted you time and again. I simply want to contribute, help and be part of the discussion. If my passing of an unproven claim occurs it is a mistake that I take seriously and try to correct.

It is under the underhood fuse/relay panel. I had to kind of customize the mounting because the surface is not all flat. It's out of the way, though.
