Gas cap question

Hi. Great forum! I took my '94 B4C to get it state emission tested today, which includes the inspector removing and testing the gas cap. I heard a lot more than three clicks when the guy reinstalled the cap at the test facility, but at the time didn't think too much of it. After I left, the gas cap was pretty tight removing it from the filler neck and reinstalling. I also thought I could smell some gas with the cap on, and I'm going to recheck that tonight. The plastic threads on the cap look perfect and there is no other obvious damage to the cap or the filler neck, so I don't think it was cross-threaded. I haven't been driving the car much recently, and it's been a while since I've gotten gas, but I sure don't remember the cap coming off and going back on like that. Also, it doesn't really make the click sound, but more of a continuous screech. Does this make any sense? Would the guy at the the test facility turning the cap well beyond three clicks hurt anything, and do these caps wear out over time? Any help appreciated.

Re: Gas cap question

Stant makes a locking gas cap that isn't very expensive; time for an upgrade
