Fuel Pressure Gauge Install Fittings
 

What fitting(s) are needed to install a FP gauge onto the fuel rail schrader valve? Is it the 1/8 to -4AN fitting? Where to buy? Depending on the sender size,will it just sit on top of the schrader valve or would I have to relocate it somewhere? What have you guys done?Thanks

I wanted to retain (and have used occasionally) my schrader valve under the hood. I used a T fitting and a couple of adapters to do this. The up side is that I can connect my Hypertech fuel pressure gauge under the hood to verify the pressure against my in-dash Autometer gauge. The down side is that it must be removed to remove/install the fuel rails. Also, I retained my fuel rail schrader valve, unlike most which require that the valve itself be removed from the fuel rail.

If you are mounting the entire gauge directly to the Schrader valve, be careful. The Schrader fitting is only swaged onto the metal line, and will break off very easilly. If the gauge is near the cowl, the engine might torque enough to allow the gauge to hit the cowl.

I used an NOS 17535 -4AN 90-deg swivel fitting. That allows you to tighten the fitting onto the Schrader valve and aim it in the correct direction, away from the cowl and firewall, with no over-tightening. Then a braided SS hose with -4AN female on one end and 1/8" male NPT on the other (I've seen these ready-made on ebay). Use a 1/8" NPT brass coupling to connect the gauge to the hose, or insert a brass "tee" in the middle to provide an "extra" connection for some other purpose, as noted above.

Or.... the ultimate solution - pressure sender mounted directly to a bung welded to the passenger side fuel rail:

I should have said the electric sender for the gauge,not the actual gauge.

Thanks for the head up on the fuel rail valve. It would have been a pain if that valve snapped off due to the weight of the sending unit.

There is enough straight section of metal fuel supply tubing (3/8") outboard of the lines' manifold support bracket to cut in a 3/8" compression tee. The tee and whatever fitting to go from 3/8" male tube to the necessary pipe thread adapter for the FP sender can be found at a Lowes, Home Depot or any dedcent plumbing supply house. At least on a 1995 and I assume it's still the same for a 97 LT1.

The NPT threads should be sealed with teflon paste. Nothing should be used on the -AN fittings.
