Finally Running Right...was the ICM :)
Finally Running Right...was the ICM :)
Past few months, been dealing with some hesitation. Not enough to throw a code, but the acceleration is just not smooth...just feels like the car is "hiccuping" or something. Probably only I could tell, since I've been driving it for 11 years.
- Changed plugs
- Checked plug wires, and opti....all looked good.
- New coil replaced about a year ago...car died on the road (bad story for another time)
- Changed crank position sensor..made it better, but still a little rough idle at at low rpms
- Finally changed the ignition coil module, and now it purrs like a fat cat and acceleration is much smoother. So much more fun to drive again.
Point of the story...even with all the performance parts on our cars..sometimes, you just need to make it run "right".
Next step..probably clean the MAF sensor when I change/clean the K&N FIPK filter.

I have been having a similar problem with my 96 z28. It has a slight miss at idle and a hard to notice hiccup between 1500rpms and 2000rpms then it has a bad miss at wot at 6000rpms. I changed out the plugs, wires, coil and opti. But it has the same problem. I am thinking about changing out the ICM after reading your thread. Even with all the mods I have the car is just not fun to drive when it is not "right".
You guys make sure to space that ICM/coil bracket off the head a little with some washers or something to keep it from getting all that engine heat. It has it's own heat sink so get that thing in the air a bit and it will cool a little better that way.
