CS144 Lt1 Alternators question

Can they all be run as a one wire, or do they need to be converted? The alternator that came with my motor works as a one wire but it fried, I've got a rebuild kit on the way, but I was going to grab a spare used stock lt1 alternator just in case I can't get it rebuilt in time for a race next week. I don't believe I still have the rest of the alternator wires in my harness from the retrofit so I want to make sure the stock one will still work for me, or if it's a quick fix.

Thanks
-Brahm

The CS 144 needs an exciter wire.

Thanks for the prompt response, I purchased this kit to rebuild my current one, but am now wondering if that will turn it back from a one wire into a stock style alternator.

Do you know by chance what internal part converts it from a multiwire to a 1 wire setup?

From doing some Googling, it looks like the voltage regulator is different. However, I have read that you lose voltage sensing with a 1 wire and it would be better to keep that for a street car.

Thanks again for the reply. I talked to the guy who I ordered the kit from and he said the same. He switched the voltage regulator for a 1 wire one. I've never had an issue running a 1wire on the street typically you just need to excite it with a quick rev. I'm hoping to relocate my alternator since I'm not using power steering or ac, so in the long run it will be much cleaner, and easier with a 1 wire setup.
