Control Module or Optispark?

I've a '94 Z28 that I've had problems with, and was curious about whether or not it was something bigger.

I've had problems with the car dying on me three times now. Twice it failed in December/January a year apart, but it's died on me again. The past two times it's been the control module, and my dad thinks that's what it is this time.

My question is this: Can a bad Optispark cause a control module to fail?

Thanks in advance for the help.
