Coil resitance

Going through the car to try and pin down a misfire, and checked the resistance of the stock, 150k mile 96 Z28's coil. Turns out it's about 2800 to 3500 ohms.... Am I doing something wrong or is the coil giving up the ghost? And reason the resistance would go down? Could it cause a misfire under acceleration? Thank you in advance for your help!

You should do it like this -

I don't know what you mean by giving up the ghost, and what makes you think resistance has gone down? Have you checked it before?

Since most aftermarket coils run at a lower resistance, then I would say your's is okay. I would think there is no cause for a misfire. If you want too, find someone with a car that isn't missing that you can swap coils with to see if the problem goes away or not.

I would try this next if I was you though.

I just got done replacing my opti, and it fixed my 1500-2000rpm hesistation.

Yea, i ran through both of shoebox's tests, and my coil is nowhere near 8k megaohm, it was more like 3k megaohm. It's a stock coil, so i didn't know what the deal was, usually resistance goes up with time. The rest of the tests pass, so it's either coil, icm, or wires. When i tested the coil, there was some corrosion in the housing where the coil wire goes, so i'll replace it anyway i guess. One more thing to eliminate!

I like that test Mike, makes me want to go watch star wars now :P
