Worth it to upgrade from P1SC to D1SC or will I want an F1?

I am considering selling my P1SC and buying a D1SC. Would it be a huge gain or would I end up wanting a F1?

Has anyone done this that can tell me how it affected the power band of their motor?

I want alot of low end and mid range torque for daily driving and I very rarely race my car. The P1SC just doesn't make much boost in the lower rpms and mid range.

Thanks in advance.

I believe ProCharger can upgrade your head unit from a P1 to a D1. Probably be a cheaper way to go. And, yea, I'd say it's a worthwhile upgrade. A cam change may also give you the torque you're looking for.

I called procharger. They want $1200 to upgrade so I called a sponsor and got a quote of $2300 shipped for a new D1SC headunit. If I can get $1600 for my used P1SC then buying outright would be the better way to go.

Does your D1SC make good boost down low? All the propaganda I've been reading says it is more efficient and makes boost earlier due to a helical impeller.

Not really, with the 4" pulley I get this from my data logs.

RPM--PSI
3000-2.5
3500-3.5
4000-4.8
4500-6
5000-8
5500-10
6000-12

Sounds like you want more of a twin screw/roots type supercharger.

Anyone know if using a different underdrive pulley will change the boost curb drastically?

I was considering spinning my P1SC faster with a custom 8.5 in crank pulley. After talking with SDCE I've decided not to try and pulley up for more power. Apparently several of his customers have tried this and ended up not gaining much power. He thinks that the torque used to spin the P1SC faster goes up exponentially and doesn't not necessarily give you much more CFM.

Those boost numbers under the curve do not look that good on the D1SC either. I know it is just a matter of time until the turbo guys chime in and say "I told you so." LOL

i recommend going to the F1. been down that road and i think you'll be happier. never fails you will always want more and if the F1 is a little much boost for you right now you can always pulley it down.

Is your F1 alot louder than a P1SC? Does your gas mileage suffer from all that drag on the blower?

All the F1 vids I have when compared to the D1 vids I have show the F1 being a CONSIDERABLE bit louder. I wouldn't think the mileage would be any different unless you are comparing mileage using WOT runs.

The P600 is actually really loud as well for some reason.

When I called procharger, Andereck said the F1's were louder. I'd be interested to see the cfm/boost numbers vs the amount of torque required to spin the blower.

I'm sure it depends on what you like. I know lots of guys wanting a quiet blower so they can have a sleeper car. Me on the other hand, I like the guy I'm racing to be able to hear me coming, and hear me going

I like the sound of my D1 a lot, but the sound of an F1 makes me drewl!

The 5.40 gearset of the F series blowers is wider, but has less teeth in contact at any time. Just like a low rear gear this results in more noise from the head unit and a characteristic sound around idle. some people really like it and others do not. I also varies in intensity between engine combinations due to several factors such as rotating inertia of the crankshaft. The impeller of the F1 is also more aggressive and contributes to the sound.

I don't have any links, but I do have them on my computer. I will see if I can get them posted on the video section of this board. Then I can get some links. If not, then I may be able to send them to you via email if they are not too big.

I'll try to post them, and let you know what happens.
