Wire Mesh screen for a D1
Re: Wire Mesh screen for a D1
i don't have a answer for you other then search google for wire mesh. i forget where i got mine that i installed in place of where my foglights were.
what are you exactly going to do with it?

If you plan on using just the "mesh" for more than just track use, I would plan on having a D1 rebuild shortly in your future. You'd be surprized how much dust and dirt an actual Air Filter keeps from getting into your blower, not to mention your motor.
Basically I am saying its not a good idea IMO unless you plan on drag racing it at the track only a couple times a year.

Re: Wire Mesh screen for a D1
To me that looks like one of those small cooking strainers thats attached to a handle, maybe they just cut the mesh off of one of those and clamped it onto the blower inlet. Time for a trip to the hardware store.
Re: Wire Mesh screen for a D1
Unless you plan on running your car through piles of leaves or a gravel road at WOT, what good is the mesh really going to do? Unless you are expecting large objects to come half way up into your engine bay, I would figure you'd be just as good off by not having anything on the blower at all. In fact if all you are doing is drag racing it, that's probably your best bet.
For driving the car on the street, the best preventative measure to keep your blower running without a re-build, or your motor for that matter, you will need some form of air filter.

Re: Wire Mesh screen for a D1
I hate to get all mathy on you guys but consider carefully whether the screen is really less restrictive than a proper air filter. I've seen pictures of what appears to be a juice strainer on the inlet of people's blowers which if you take in account all of the wire in the strainer and its size its clearly more restrictive than a filter. Not only that but if something were to get sucked up against the screen the vacuum would cause it to get pulled towards the impeller. You can imagine what that could do to your blower if the screen were to make contact.
Re: Wire Mesh screen for a D1
Procharger ships many of their universal kits with a K&N filter that is to be clamped directly to the inlet. With most blowers that will work fine. A few have a very short inlet flange which makes it more difficult but no impossible.
With a P1SCx , D1SC, F1, F1R use a filter with a 4" ID.

Re: Wire Mesh screen for a D1
I bought a shorty conical K&N that's only 4" tall to use when I don't have all the tubing installed.
I wouldn't recommend putting a filter element over the end and clamping it. You get a lot more filter area (meaning more air) by using a normal corrugated filter. And the design is built for strength and will be a lot less likely to suck into the blower inlet.
