Who has removed a supercharger?
I am taking off the SQ Trim on my 97 Z28, and I removed the oil feed and return lines from the oil pan. I pluged the feed line with a 3/8" npt plug, but the wierd thing was it never felt like it was tightened, only that I could contine to thread it into the oil pan until the entire plug would go in. So I applied some RTV gasket sealant, and threaded it in again, as far as I felt safe. Will this work properly and seal the oil pan? On the return line, I simply left the 1/4" pipe in there and removed the elbow, then capped it off with a 1/4" npt cap, and it seems fine, I am just concerened about the oil feed hole. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated, TIA!
Re: Who has removed a supercharger?
being removed because I am going to try to sell the car within the next few months. Hopefully I will be able top get around $5k for the car, but the price of LT1's is crap for some reason. Anyways, I am going to sell the blower to try to make up for some of the money I have invested in the car before it goes. Probably going to look into an 01 or 02 Z28... or maybe just a beater while I finish my degree.
Re: Who has removed a supercharger?
You've got feed and return backwards. The feed line (pressurized) come from the engine block just above the oil filter. I suggest removing the pipe completely and plug the block with a 1/4 NPT plug (this is what a stock block has). The return line (non-pressurized) goes to the oil pan. RTVing in a plug will be fine as there's no pressure (on a healthy engine, i.e. no blow by).
Re: Who has removed a supercharger?
you don't think the cap on the 1/4" tube will be ok? The cap is rated at 150 psi, and my oil pressure never really goes over 50 psi, so I thought it would be fine? Anyways, I let the 3/8" plug with the RTV set overnight and put oil back in it today. Everything seems good, no leaks. I removed the T-Rex pump which turned out to be a complete PITA. Now I have to cut the fuel line and make an adapter with some of the hose becasue I can't get the damn ridged nipple out of the stock fuel line, its in there good. So I am going to cut it out, then make some sort of adapter to mount up to the fuel filter....
Re: Who has removed a supercharger?
The cap will work, it's just cleaner not to have the tube there.
Most parts stores sell fuel line mending kits that include a brass double barbed fitting that can be heated up and "melted" into position to connect to the stock plastic fuel line.

Re: Who has removed a supercharger?
I tried expanding the fuel line like the manual said, but with no luck. I don't have much faith in the "fix it" kits for fuel lines. Maybe they work though?
Re: Who has removed a supercharger?
The fix-it kit is the same as the installation kit for the TRex in-line fuel pump. It's a brass barbed fitting that you heat up to 400 degrees and the shove it in the end of the plastic fuel line. The heats softens up the plastic fuel line to allow it to conform to the barbed fitting.
