What's YOUR fuel pump of choice...???

Hey guys, replacing the fuel pump in a 95 Procharged T/A. I have seen that there are a multitude of fuel pumps available (Walbro, Granatelli, Holley, Accel, etc). What do you guys run/consider the best? I see a lot of people run the Walbro's, but I've heard they "whine" a lot.

I saw someone else had a problem with dropping fuel pressure, I seem to have the same. I'm going to swap the filter before I go ahead and buy a new pump too. The one in it now sounds pretty loud, but strong... but the FP drops quickly with throttle. Also, I am unsure whether the "booster" pump has been disconnected (electrically), could this lead to the problem?

New to supercharged cars, had an opportunity I couldn't pass up and now I own one a few years earlier than I expected... so sorry for the noob questions...

i JUST ordered a Granatelli myself.. ill be running that and an MSD booster pump, ill let you know how it works out. Should be in by the weekend. If your booster pump is not running it will cause major problems with a stock pump. Your booster pump has check valves and all that stuff and creates a major obstruction too and already majorly over worked stocker mile cause me problems if not running before the supercharger.. it would totally fall on its face at like 4500 if i didnt have it turned on but i think my pump was a little week but still.

The drop-in walbros are popular for a reason.

If you need more fuel than the stock pump can provide...?

I'm partial to Mallory.

Some people have ran booster pumps and ran fine, others I have talked with had issues. I am playing it safe and running a dual walboro in tank system set up on a HOBBS switch. It seems to be the best/safest setup out there IMO. As for the noise they make, other than when I turn the key and the pump turns on before the ignition, I can't hear it at all. (while the car is running)

How much are the dual walbros good for? Ive read alot about them draining that bucket that they sit in. anyone have a pic of what this "bucket" looks like? Im hoping to run 18 psi on a T-trim and am definitely going to need more than 1 pump I am guessing. Want to keep be safe and have plenty of fuel at the motors disposal. any ideas?

Do an external A1000 and be done with it. That's what I did (although it's a '77 Camaro and not a 4th gen) That should be enough fuel for anything.

Weldon. With out a doubt. I had a BG king sumo (what a POS), total waste of time, expensive and highly unreliable. The weldon was more expensive, but has never failed me. Here is a link to a vid I made of me doing a burnout in my garage. I have a key on and start in the vid, so you can hear the pump priming up.

If I'm not mistaken a dual Walboro system should handle over 1,000 RWHP. As for the "bucket", I am not sure what you are reffering to. They just go into the fuel tank, and there isn't anything but fuel around them in the tank. Here's a few pics of the assembly the fuel pumps go on. From there, they just drop into the tank.

Hey........do I get royalties for this seeing as how those are MY hands in that last pic????

The bucket in question is the one seen in the following pic (sorry about the quality):

It's there to keep the pump submerged in fuel. The return line empties directly into the bucket to keep a constant fuel supply at the pump. It has been said that removal of this bucket will allow the pump to go dry with low fuel levels and hard cornering, but most have not run into this problem.

Dual In-Tank setups will not fiit into the factory bucket.

Okay. Now I feel dumb. Yeah what Fastbird said. I will say publicly that Fastbird has a superior knowledge of F-bodies over me. (Hence why it is HIS hands in my picture of working on my car)

I'm partial to Mallory.
I've been running a Mallory for about 5 years now, the 110FI.
Great (external) pump! Nice and quiet too. It runs at about 5 amps, that's it. Never had a problem with it.
This pump has been upgraded by Mallory to flow more now compared to the older one I have. This pump is only like 250 bucks. The weldons are the best, but you sure do pay for it.

The problem I see with the external higher capacity pumps like the Mallory or whatever is the fact that you still must feed that pump from the tank and thus still have to rely on your factory pump.

Actually no- the pumps work just fine without having a pump to feed it. I have a Weldon on my car and it seems to work just fine-
