What mufflers you running and does your car pop on decel

Like the title says. Im running streight through mufflers, bullets, and I cant stand the popping on the decel. It gets pretty loud at times. Im willing to swap mufflers if I have to. also is your car a manual or auto

Re: What mufflers you running and does your car pop on decel

I'm running Long tubes with a mufflex y and Corsa cat-back. Mine doesn't pop at all. I am going to an x with 12" bullets here next week, so I'll know more then. I've always found on my old 3rd gens that if I had an exhaust leak, then it would pop on decel (engine brakeing), then I would fix the leak and it would go away. Just my experiences.

Try adding fuel to the decel and see if that shuts it up..

I know it sounds a bit unconventional but it works for me

Pull the timing up a few degrees and add fuel in the high vaccum cells.

Hey Sleeper, what's up, you're still around. This is Ed from Socal. Looks like your making some good power...1000 rwhp That's pretty insane dood.

Popping something to do with the turbos? I know there was a turboed rice rocket at the NHRA Winternationals last year, it was popping like crazy, but the guy ran in the 8's.

I always thought that the secondary popping was from an excess of fuel in the exhaust and when the decel gets leaner the exhaust temp goes up and ignites it. This may not be your case, but I've seen cars do it. You usually get a nice 1-2 foot flame out the exhaust too. It might not hurt to have someone follow you and check it out, if they can keep up Maybe use a set of binoculars?

I have a 96 SS, that I recently swapped out my muffler (SLP 2OTL) with a Flowmaster....Big difference. Not in power, but in sound. Too much popping and loud. I then put the original back in and the popping dropped to zero and the car is smoother and quieter. Power is identical from my butt-o-meter, but it probably is a couple hp down due to flow.

Go with something that has some restriction and it will sound smoother.

HE already has some restriction in the form of 2 turbo's That being said I am running a 4" mufflex system (spintech muffler) and no popping with both an auto and a manual. ALot quieter than the old Borla as well.

Actually, from what I've seen the 20TL flows better than a flowmaster catback.

Your TOL exhaust puts the flowmaster to shame.

The TOL is possibly the most efficient single 3"exhaust out there. If you have the silencer before the muffler, take it out.

I run dual 3" ATR Pitbull mufflers, bullets were always too loud for me like running an open y pipe.

Dual 3" into Supertrapps, no popping here..

On a side note, I have noticed the same thing as Rooster, richening it up a bit cured most if not all the popping on a friends 93 with 3" duals,.. all he has is some Spintech header inserts for mufflers and it is LOUD!!

I thought popping was from un-burnt fuel in the exhaust? So a lean condition would prevent that. I guess I never tried a 13.5 a/f for decel. My car doesnt like anything below 13.5ish for cruising. Next year Ill give that a try. I just miss being able to down shift
