What motor oil are you guys using?

I would like to see what motor oil are you guys using???

After a low oil condition while on the body shop that literally destroyed my engine i was wondering what motor oil are you guys using?

I tend to change the oil once every 800-1000 miles so i was thinking on going to a distilled oil (havoline). But I was also wondering on the weight you guys are you using and/or recommend.

Ideas? input?

On the inital break-in of my motor I used Castrol 10W-30. After a few oil changes I decided to give Mobil 1 a try and I must say I was highly dissappointed. It burned oil at startup which led me to believe that I had bad valve seals (the rings were seated by this time). Before tearing the motor apart I decided to give Redline 10W-30 a try and let me just say that the motor did not smoke at all. IMO it works great and after some dyno time and a track day with the car I decided to change it. The oil was extremely clean and looked new.

IMO if you are going to change your oil ever 1000 miles than I would stick to Castrol 10W-30.

1000 miles is way overkill for a street car, especially with a synthetic oil. Just dumping $$ for no reason...just do the typical 3mos/3000 miles and your engine will have all the protection it will ever need (unless its an 8000RPM+ race motor)

I am using Castrol Syntec 0w-30, the one imported from Germany after someone did some oil analysis of it and discovered it had the lowest amount of particles in it than any other oil tested, including other synthetics. So far I'm pretty happy with it.

Funny you should be the one talking about overkill.

mobil one is not a good oil really... i didn't like it...

1000 miles is not really overkill... but you could really feel the difference when the oil was changed.. really...

I guess we will have to see...

Amsoil. The top of the line stuff, I can't recall what they call it. something-2000 I think.

Plus filter changes every 3,000 miles. the oil may last longer, but it still gets dirty just as fast.

Actually i always use Mobil 1 but i had them throw in some Castrol syntech last time because they only had 3 qts of mobil1 left. And the car actually ran ~10* cooler. I was very happy with it.

Really i never wanted to say anything about it. Because of how highly revered Mobil1 is. I just thought i was crazy until i saw this post.

I also noticed that it seemed to keep the temp from rising as fast. Could be just me, but im do for another oil change and i think im going with castrol syntech again. And thats after years of mobil1

I've never been impressed with mobil one.. as a matter of fact i like the havoline texaco 30hd better... I will try out the syntec to see how it goes...

Do you guys recommend 30hd or 40hd?

Valvoline 20w50. Synthetics are really only necessary when oil temps get hot. My oil never gets above 240 even after a hard blast or 2. I see no reason to spend the extra $$

I have a oil question too, I have been using mobil one 15-50 lately insteading of 10w30 because of some leaks, does it really help?

Also, I used syntec one time and after about 1500 miles I did some racing and the pressure was alot lower when the motor got upto about 200* than it would be when I used mobil one, is that acceptable or is it a sign of the oil breaking down. I am not saying pressure shoulder be lower with heat, I am saying that the pressure was different between these two brands at the same temp.
