What? F3R is CHAIN Driven?

Saw one last night at Texas Raceway. Looked like a 5" intake and 4" piping to aftercooler and back to intake. It was mounted directly in front of the crank facing backwards. Very large chain driving the blower off the crank. It ran a 4.71 @ 142 on it's second full pass in the 1/8th. Trippy setup. A Ford.

What about my P600B?
forgetabout slippage or "belt" throwing!
I'don't mind a little "noise".
If a Dirt Bike can take it with all that dirt and grit mixed in, I'm sure it wouldn't be a trouble spot.
But, What about the blower transmission?
Hmmmmmm.

The chain drive is a new RACE ONLY setup for the Pro 5.0 guys. Supposed to be more reliable(ie less slippage),and less stress on the crank.

I suppose you could use it on the street, but if/when the chain breaks....it's gonna get REAL ugly.

The chain drive was just released from ATI. There was some talk about it on the NMCA board and on a email chat group I am in. The chain drive is the newest thing and looks to be an awesome choice for the guys that are churning up serious boost. The chain drive is only for the huge blowers, F3M and the D3 setup. They are going to release the chain drive to the public here soon, but only for the big blowers. Should be Mangrums car that the chain drive was on.

The chain drive I actually would think would be quite, as the timing chain isn't loud.

That is so strange...Blowers moving to chains and other things that have used chains for years are moving to cogged belts. Main one that I can think of is Snowmobiles. They are selling belt setups to replace the chain that is between the jackshaft and the track. Their reasoning is that the belt setups are lighter and the belts are stronger than the chains. Not sure, maybe those chains are really wimpy...

Next thing someone will gear drive a blower if they haven already

I, think some of it is to keep the drive from throwing off as easy. Those big belts just are not wanting to stay on sometimes. The top fuel guys are swapping over to my buddies shops setup now which is the vbelt (looks like a tractor tire) I am really interested in this chain drive though. I do agree if it comes off OUCHY.

Chain guards work gooder.

This was USA Mortorsports out of Arlington TX.

Last week I was thinkin "why don't they gear drive?".
You could run a crank "gear" and have a backside Idler to keep in from "pushing off" the main drive. spray oiling might be tricky.

I thought chains were one of the most efficient forms of power transfer. Even more so than belts. Bend easier with more "traction".

QUESTION: Could a smaller P600B handle the "instant" stop and start action of a street driver?

That should have been Travis Franklin's car. Supposedly he picked up 400hp with that system. He races NMRA and Fun Ford street outlaw.

Doug Mangrum doesn't do anything but national events now. He is still the Procharger poster boy and gets all their latest stuff first. They showed off his car at the SEMA show with that system.

It's a big chain too, looks like a really long timing chain. Now all they need is a derailer and you can have variable boost

I heard somewhere that its the same type of chain that is being used on Pro Stock Bikes. Seems like it would take some abuse.
