Water/alcohol Injection is for you!

Hey guys,

I got a waterinjection kit going good on the car.. I use a TPS sensor since my boost is very very linear with TPS and not at all with RPM.

I'm using

Mc Master Carr M10 (10 gallons per hour) nozzel
Shurflow Pump, can't remeber part number but it was $45 new
And washerfluid rated for -20 below.. this should come out to about 53% methonol which helps believe it or not... It doesn't like straight water as much as this.

Its very cheap, but very effective.. I went from getting consistantly 0.6 of a degree of retard at 1.5 degrees per PSI to absoulutely 0 at .25 degrees per PSI retard. Which picked the car up about 3mph... (don't ask for times, I haven't been to the strip on drag radials or slicks yet, all i can say is it trapped REAL nice even with a 2.4 sixty! )

It adds a bit of safety and makes power.. BTW.. you can watch the air temps go from 80-90 degrees to ambient in like 2 seconds when spraying..

It really is magical stuff... I love it. I'm using a kit I put together. It's using a SHURflo pump, McMaster M15, and some other misc. parts. I'm controlling it with MAP though. If anybody wants pics... or even to just find out more about it or a kit or something PM me. I run straight denatured alcohol and I have 0, yes 0, knock across the board even on the shifts with no intercooler.

For those of you less into DIY, my friend Bob Kennedy makes a nice kit. www.kennedysdynotune.com

How are you controlling it with the map?

Thanks

I'm using a controller that works on any 0-5 volt GM sensor (MAP, MAF, TPS)...

Do you know what PSI then nozzles are rated at, and what kind of PSI are you running through the pump? (just curious as to what type of flow rates are typical - saw the 10 and 15gph nozzle ratings).

Also how is the methanol/water metered? Is it a changing pressure or a pwm type of setup?

Thanks,
Chris Bennight

That pump has an adjustable pressure screw... mine is set at probably 130 psi. I could have used a progressive system (the pressure is constant, it controls the voltage going to the pump) but for my boost level a standard (turn-on point/pump speed) was fine for me. It's working out VERY nicely. PM me if you want info or pics.

i've got a wide open throttle switch that i made a bracket for so that at anything over 25% activates it.

i've got my pressure set at 80 psi via a air tool regulator.. Its adjustable from 0 -140psi. Its one fo the regulators you use at the tool, not at the compressor so its real small and inconspicous

I didn't like the way the shurflows pressure switch cycled the pump on and off so violently so i bypassed it..

I'm considering buying anthor solinoid maybe a nitrous solinoid or maybe i can find something cheap in a mcmaster carr cataloge...anyway have that solinoid open anthor nozzel at wide open.

my boost builds alot differently than you guys'.. thats why i've been basing all of this stuff off TPS
