Vortech SC owners, few questions
Vortech SC owners, few questions
I finally got my car making boost. This is my first experience with SC (done turbo's/NOS) so i'm not exactly sure about the characteristics of the blower.
The motor is stock except 1.6RR and lt4 springs. I set the timing pretty conservative (17deg WOT), AF target is 11.5:1, and setup the MAF to blow through. Crank pulley is 6", blower is 2.75" (also have a 2.5" if i need more boost). I'm still being easy on the car until i get it dialed in.
What rpm does your blower start making boost? If i stomp it at 2k rpm, it'll start passing 0psi by 3k in 2nd gear. Also, do different gears (different load) affect boost levels? How does the outside air temp affect boost levels? For example if the car makes 5psi on a 100deg day, what will it do on a 50deg day? Also, will boost come on a little sooner? How much timing advance is optimal (91 pump gas)?
I'm just trying to get some good info before I start adjusting the tune.
Thanks,
James

Some boost by 3k is the norm for most applications. Your blower builds boost in a linear fashion unlike a turbo so load should not affect it too dramatically. Generally the faster you turn the motor/supercharger the faster it's going to feel. Colder air is more dense than hot air so on a cold day you will probably see 1-2 more psi than on a hot day.
