Vortech Bypass Valve questions

I'm currently installing a used Vortech S-trim on my 93.

Would venting the bypass valve into the atmosphere do any harm or have any adverse effects? The Manual says the outlet should be routed back to the air inlet tube, but I'm think about plugging the hole in the air inlet tube and just venting right out of the bypass valve outlet. It would eliminate some piping and make for a cleaner install.

One more question about the install. There is a stock AIT sender installed in the vortech elbow (the one just before the throttle body). There is also a sensor installed in the lower air intake tube (the tube after the air filter) It looks to be some type of AIT, as well. Question is - which location do I use to send AIT reading to the computor? Pre or Post supercharger? The instruction manual doesnt mention the the sensor on the lower tube at all, so I suppose I should use the upper elbow location, but I'm a little unsure...

Venting to open air won't hurt anything, IMO.

I'm using the AIT sensor from the stock location, one that threads into the metal elbow.

If you vent it to the atmosphere it may be louder than routing it back to the intake side of the S/C.
I hear a tiny bit of blower whine with my Powerdyne and my bypass is hooked back to the intake.
It's not loud, just a bit of pleasing whirring but it would probably be louder if it just vented out.

Thanks for the replys. I'm not worried about the noise, so I'll vent to the atmosphere as planned.

On a 93, there shouldn't be a problem because it's speed density. On MAF cars, it would be a problem because you'd be venting "metered" air to atmosphere.

This is true but only if you vent after the MAF. I use two surge valves and both are placed before the MAF. One redirects to the blower inlet and is controlled entirely by a boost signal, the second vents to atmosphere and is controlled two ways, by boost and by a switch. I can vent to atmosphere by flipping a switch. If the noise gets too obnoxious (it does in traffic), I close the valve with the switch.

The reason why I run two valves is simple. My blower is an ATI F1. It has a 5.00 to 1 step-up ratio. This thing puts out a lot of air that isn't used by the engine. It's gotta go somewhere when not in boost.....

Yeah, mine is placed before the MAF too (venting to atmosphere). The kit out of the box has it after the MAF though.

Re: Vortech Bypass Valve questions

Mounting the IAT sensor before the blower would be the same thing as relocating it on a stock intake, you would see cooler air, which would richen the A/FR up slightly. Mounted in the elbow will show the actual temp of the compressed air and let you know how the blower is doing..

Mine is after the turbos.....
