vortech 5# charger first time blower /expert input needed
ok i just got a vortech v-1 5# blower got a real good deal on a used lt1 kit
700.00 i really want to put it on my car but ive been told a few things i will need to even thinking of using it
1, 30lb injectors
2, new holley fuel pump intank/ or external
3, at least a 52mm throttle body
4, way over priced dyno tunning $650.00
why cant i just bolt it on my factory set up will i see gains at all ? and how much
i was told with items 1,2,3 and 4 no FMU is needed is this true?
if i need all these things listed above expectially #4 i might as well
get a cam and 1.6 rockers and springs to get the max out of my $650.00 tunning
sorry so long
thanks patrick

You have 2 choices...
1) Buy an MSD 6BTM ($300), FMU ($100), and inline fuel pump ($120) and skip the tuning. Of course, your tuning could be off quite a bit and still make the motor burn a couple pistons...
2) Do it right: upgrade injectors (I'd opt for 36s), inline fuel pump, and get wideband dyno tuning. You'll have a lot better chance of the engine lasting longer.
In either case, the throttle body is not needed. Obviously it'll help promote better airflow, but it's not required...

Re: vortech 5# charger first time blower /expert input needed
30# or 36# injectors will be fine, 36# so you will have "room to grow"
Tuner Cat or LT1 editor or what ever PCM software that is applicable to your model year so that you will be able to tell your PCM that it now has larger injectors.
You don't need a 52mm throttle body, I'm still using my original 48mm throttle body on a 383 with 9psi of boost. Works fine and you don't have any of the throttle tip in issues associated with the larger TB.
At 5 psi of boost, your MAF will see all the air and the PCM with just the injector size change will be able to handle the increased air flow with no further adjustments. You don't need to get an expensive dyno tune at this point.
At that same 5 psi of boost, you may be able to get away with running stock timing, depends on your altitude and quality of fuel you run. However it is still recommended to get an MSD BTM or some other such device to pull a little timing out on the top end, for that matter, you could do it easily with the PCM editor I mentioned above.
If you like the power that the 5 psi kit delivers, then maybe pulley it up for even more power, but then you will definitely need to subtract some timing.
Hope this helps

The other solution, of course, is bigger injectors and a custom tune.

Oooops, my bad ... yup, if you are running speed density, then you will need an FMU if you want to avoid the custom tune scenario. I used an adjustable FMU for several years. It worked well, but in the end it did fail and could have taken out the engine if I wasn't paying attention to the fuel pressure guage.
On the wide band dyno it only took 3 pulls to select the right adjustment for the FMU.
Always something
Hope this helps
