I am in the middle of tapping the hole in my oil pan for the Vortech supercharger oil drain. It says to tap it with a 3/8 tap but from the way it looks the tap is not big enough for the fitting. Am I imagining things or will that fitting actually thread into that hole even though the hole looks a lot smaller than the fitting...

Is an NPT tap the same as a normal tap? I'm using a 3/8-16 tap.

 

You're using the wrong tap, you need a 3/8" NPT tap (Pipe Thread).

You should be able to get one at a decent hardware store.
