URGENT...do you have to have an air/fuel gauge

My s/c is suspected to arrive thursday, I still have to find the wiring harness I need for the Crane HI6-TRC. Also though I have to buy the pod for the guage or gauges. The kit I got used comes with the boost guage. Do I NEED the a/f ration guage??? Don't mean to be pushy just trying to order today. Thanks guys. If I don't...I'm just gonna order the single guage pod.

The boost gauge is great to have, but the fuel pressure guage is also a must in my book. This way you can keep an eye on the fuel pressure during WOT and make sure it doesn't drop. This will save your motor from going boom when your fuel system dies and you see the sign from the FP guage.

The A/F guage using your stock O2 sensor is just a light show and is basically useless for tuning. The only good A/F guage is the DIY using a wideband O2 sensor.

Highly recommend getting both the boost and FP guages.

good luck

Thanks man...is it ok to get the kinda cheap Fuel Pressure one that doesn't wire to inside the car?? I know I'm cheap...just working on a limited budget. Thanks.

It doesn't matter if you get the cheaper mechanical or the more expensive electrical ones. As long as the guage give accurate pressure.

good luck

If you get a mechanical fp guage, you'll be best off to mount it on your cowl outside of the windshield. It's rather dangerous to have a fuel line running inside of the car, and I've head that the isolators aren't perfect.

What are you concerned about when it rains? In general, to mount on the cowl, you buy a gauge cup that encloses the guage. You then should wrap any electrical wires in wire loom, and maybe wrap the wires in electrical tape inside of the loom for added protection. The fuel line ideally would be a braided stainless steel line, and will look and function great without any further covering. I personally have an electric one in the a-pillar, but I wouldn't be concerned with rain for a mechanical guage. Just seal up everything the best you can, and shouldn't have a problem.

I just don't think it will look good stuck on the hood or anywhere in sight. But I don't wanna pay the extra to run it inside...AND like someone said before do you really wanna run a fuel line inside the car?? I wanna say I heard that you don't have to constantly look at fuel pressure...if not can't it be attached under the hood?? Thanks again.

You cant be cheap on high hp setups or else you will be spending more time fixing it than driving. Buy a Auto Meter eletric gauge and be done. You want that sucker where you can watch at all times, its the most important gauge you will have. If your not watching FP on a forced induction motor and you punch it you will be doing a rebuild. Its almost impossible to put CHEAP and BLOWER in the same paragraph.

Very true. What do you have to watch for. Like what is good at and what is bad. Sorry to ask such stupid questions I'm new to the whole s/c scene. Thanks

This is example dont take these numbers for real. If you floor the car gauge should spike up to say 45psi if it drops as rpms raise you either need bigger injectors and or pump. Anytime it drops you must let off gas or risk major engine melt down. If you car is geting enough fuel when you floor it FP should raise one psi for evry psi of boost. So if you have 8psi of boost you should have around 53psi of boost, but this is not true in all situation. It would not be a bad thing if it did not raise that much so long it raised some and never drops.

No one cares a stupid qustions because the dumber questions was the one that was not asked. You have to learn some way. This board and doing all the work myself is the only way Iknow what I do.

Thanks a lot man . I am gonna go with the Electrical FP guage. I have found it on summit for I believe like 192.00. Do you know of anywhere cheaper??? Thanks again man.

For forced induction, I think the most used and worth buying is the Boost, FP, and EGT gauges.

Thats sounds about right on the price. EGT is a very nice tool also, but fuel pressure is a must. Boost gauge is cheap. Before you order you might wanna get part number (923104 and #991001 I think) N20 fitings so ya can just hook it right up to shrader valv. One is a 90 bend from s-valv and the other is female for FP gauge. I just made them after 3 hours in the pick a nut and several beers.
