TurboCharging an Lt 1

Alright guys well i have 1978 z28 camaro with a 1994 Lt 1 in it and i was wondering, how it would cost to get the turboCharger and everything else i would need to replace. Ive heard many different things from my friends on what to do but they said they are not sure.

Any help would be great

Re: TurboCharging an Lt 1

Are you talking just to mount turbos up to it, or do you mean all the engine work and fuel system and such to go from a bone stock engine to one more boost friendly? Even if you're doing the welding and fabricating yourself, it'll get real expensive real quick, again assuming that you're doing things the right way. If you're talking engine and fuel system too, you're gonna have a hefty bill.

for mine..its more around 20k(actually a little more)...turbos and stock Lt1s go to gether like two dicks...just isnt supposed to be done..(no offense to any gay people on here) you need to have a MIN. of forged pistons.with a lower Cr. also depends on your power goals..anything over 600 and expect to pay over 10k(6-7 for the turbo set up...2 for the fuel system. 2 for the engine management..1+ for a proper tune, 1+ for the suspension to get it to hook..not to mention another 3 or so for the rest of the drivetrain..adds up real quick!)

Dang thats quite a bit. I wasnt thinking it would run that much. I was thinking of just getting a cheap turbo off ebay and see what some of the other stuff would be.

Re: TurboCharging an Lt 1

I spent about $1000 in block prep
$550 for a 4340 Eagle crank
$350 for 4340 Eagle rods
$330 for speed Pro Forged pistons -22cc dish
$100 in wrist pins
$170 in rings and bearings
$250 in gaskets
Thats $2700 in the motor

I spent around $3500 building my turbo kit myself with new turbo's/wastegates/and BOV (may save a little with used stuff)

Fuel, well I got $500 in a dual intank pump setup and another $500 in 83# injectors.

$1200 in Th350 trans, and $2000 in 9" rear

Thats a hair over $10K. Should be able to support well over 600.

Re: TurboCharging an Lt 1

I've got I think $8000 or so into a fully built motor with ported heads/intake, then $3000 into the turbo system, $1000 in the fuel system, clutch/flywheel alone set me back another $850, then I've got some front suspension upgrades (everything including k-member) adding another $1000, then I'm getting a better driveshaft, upgrading the T56 tranny, and the rear end. Then tuning the thing. Then I got better wheels/tires to handle the load $1250, then upgraded to the C5 Front Brakes, which added another like $500 to the mix. Tuning I think will set me back another $600-$1000 when I have it dyno-tuned.
