Traditional s/c cam's

I remember maybee a year or so ago that the traditional s/c cam wa being changed. Although Im still seeing the same grinds being offered I thnk it was Engineer Mike that said in the next couple of years the grinds will be changing. After 2 years Im still seeing the same cams being recomended like the 218/230 or the ever so popular 224/236 on a 113-114lsa. My question is has anybody "changed the game" yet?. Is anybody making more power with a non traditional s/c cam?. Or have we just settled on whats working right now?. Anybody care to discuss this?

Not sure on the big manufacturers, but I'd go to Bret or Cam Motion for a custom job.

Re: Traditional s/c cam's

I have a Joe O cam in the motor now, and he conviced me that 114+ lca isnt needed for s/c applictations, is it proven? well i sure as hell belive that you dont need lots of lca to make power with s/c and i'm not loosing any boost either like people said i would, it builds boost nicely through the power band and lots of it. 3.4 upeer 7.25 lower i'm seeing 16-17lbs. car is making around 650rwhp on some 190cc heads/stock intake/52mm tb. The heads were ported, but nothing serious just a clean up job with a 5 angle valve job.
i think they flowed 269@500. I'm happy with the cam it sounds awsome and the power band is very nice, i'm shiftting around 6500rpm but could probably take it higher. the car has seen 109mph 1/8 trap speeds at its virgin passes with 3.23s and a 10bolt, letting out and getting back in it in 1st gear. We are guessing it will see around 111-113mph when all said and done

Sounds like youve got a monster on your hands. Its cars like your that are going against the grain but still making good power. But I guess someone will have to find out or maybee you will. What if you went with a standard s/c cam with simular specs, would you be making more power?. I guess we wont find out anytime soon. Im really interested what soem of the other guys that are making big power like R.Krouse(sp), or Engineer Mike. Or even Bret could probably give his opinion on the subject.

Re: Traditional s/c cam's

I believe LJ went with a 112 on his cam, which is still wide in my book.

The only example I've found so far is an LT1 that pulled 148 in the quarter at 18 psi from an ATI D1 (I think), on a 355, stock ported heads, stock ported intake, and a 224/230 - 112 cam. It follows my theory, though, that you delay Exhaust Valve Opening on a supercharged engine to take advantage of a greater expansion ratio (like compression ratio, but on the power stroke) offered by a forced induction motor.

Re: Traditional s/c cam's

I'm not totally sure it was a D1 (all those ATI blowers look the same to me. . . ). It was Mike Licht and it ran in the high 9's.

F1 or F1R most likely fastest car to this date i've heard was Madmans old car that went mid 9s on a d1 but not close to 148mph. I'm going to try to chase that record this year What is this guy doing going high9s at 148mph is this car 6 speed? I'm guessing right around 750rwhp to trap that high.

Re: Traditional s/c cam's

My guess is that the 355 with a centrifugal didn't have that much low-end or mid. Couple that with the right (loose) converter, and it'll fly. But with a street converter in the 2500 range, it won't ET well for the mph.

Re: Traditional s/c cam's

I'm running a CC305 cam and seem to be making decent power
