supercharging a v6

ive got a 96 rs....with the 3.8 series II in it out of a 98 camaro (the original motor threw a rod) and im looking at buying a powerdyne supercharger kit from rksport.

so far i have slp cai, headers, borla 3" catback, and a shift kit

this is basically directed to the v6 guys....but any help/input is welcome

what kind of gains can i expect

i run a 9.8 1/8 and a 15.4 1/4......what kind of times might i see

any problems with the stock crank that i can expect

would you recommend getting an intercooler or aftercooler for it?

thanks

V6's have a lot of potential like V8's, and the cost is sometimes more to build a V6 due to parts availability. The Buick V6 in the grand national is a great example. That motor has forged pistons and a forged crankshaft.

With lower boost levels under 8 psi, you should be okay. But to make a lot of power with a V6, you are going to need much higher boost, say 15-20 pounds. This requires good forged pistons, crank, and rods.

If Vortech makes a kit, I would go with them. Their blower is much more proven than powerdynes.

it really is teh only way to go for max power/streetability/potential.

The powerdyne kit I've seen for the 3.8 has a goofy belt setup where the smooth side of the belt drives the supercharger.. which can cause problems with slipping.

Yep, I had one. Was able to get it to 10 psi. If I remember correctly, I gained almost 100 rwhp.

There is some info on my site.
