supercharger on a stock engine????

I was just throwing around the idea of bolting on a supercharger. I haven't done too much to my car. Moroso CAI, BBK shortys, Flowmaster exhaust, and 1.6 RR. If I was going to put a supercharger on, what else would I have to do to the engine? Will I have to upgrade my pistons, fuel management??? Is this even a good idea at this point? I don't really want to get into the engine too much right now. Mostly just bolt on's. Any suggestions to keep me from blowing up my car would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks,

Jason

As far as I know, you can easily run a 4.5psi system on a stock lt1. Maybe someone else with more experience can help?

Well if you buy a supercharger it should come with everything you need to do it safely,i would limit the boost to 6psi.Also you may want to browse the forced induction section on this site and see what the other guys are doing.I thought about supercharging mine but after reading some of the post on the forced induction message board those guys kind of scared me away from that idea but you will need to see for yourself and deside.Good luck.

My buddy has a 4.5 psi supercharger on his car. He pretty much has similar mods to you. Accept he bought larger injectors(30 lb), MSD 6AL, Adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and some other little things. I know it can be done on stock...have fun!!

I'll have to check out the forced induction section. I read in a magazine I have about a guy putting a SC on his LT1 and his car was running lean and ended up burning up his pistions. The 30 lbs. injectors sounds like a good idea.

Does anyone know what kinda' gas milage you would get? Living in CA at $2.16 a gallon I don't know if I can afford to do too much more to my car.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah, low boost (4-6 lbs) is OK for stock. FI will wear down the engine sooner though, no matter how low the boost. Anything more, and you need to upgrade your internals. Not sure if injectors come with supercharger kits or not...

When driving the car normally your fuel mileage shouldn't change much. The super charger does not come with injectors but it comes with a FMU(fuel management unit) that raises the fuel pressure while under boost. It depends on what kit you buy but the only other thing i would get is a hi flow fuel pump. But again it depends on the kit you get because some of them come with a fuel pump.
